MANUEL LABORDE WERLINDEN award

Objectives

1. Promote ideas and projects of entrepreneurship in the university environment
2. Support and spread the business culture in the university collective
3. Take advantage of the innovative potential of the University for the creation and development of new companies.
4. Favour new employment support formulas in our environment

considering the following types of projects as innovative:

• New Scientifically-Technologically Based Companies.
• Specific Knowledge-intensive companies which are directed at emerging sectors.

Aimed at
• Teaching staff and research personnel at the UPV/EHU.
• Graduates, postgraduates and/or students in their last year at the UPV/EHU.
• Companies which decide to exploit the results of an investigation carried out in collaboration with the UPV/EHU through a new company.


Those who present innovative ideas for new business initiatives with the intent to carry them out within Gipuzkoa can participate.

Assessment of Candidacy
• The initiative’s promotional team.
• Contribution of knowledge by the UPV/EHU.
• Degree of innovation of the product/process/service.
• Market opportunity and interest of the activity in the sector.

Awards
The first prize is:
• Cash prize of 7,500 Euros.
• In the case where a space at the “Joxe Mari Korta” Centre is allocated, the winner will not need to pay the lease for the first year of their stay.

The second prize is:
• Cash prize of 3,500 Euros.

In addition, the innovative candidates qualified as intensives in knowledge or with Scientific-Technological Base will be able to opt for the aids managed by BIC GIPUZKOA BERRILAN, and coordinated by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa’s Department for Innovation and the Society for Knowledge and the Society for the Industrial Reconversion and Promotion (SPRI) of the Basque Government’s Department of Industry TXEKINTEK Programme / EKINTZAILE and BARNEKINTZAILE to support its development and start-up, capable of reaching up to 60,000 € depending on the degree of innovation and interest in the projects.

• Coverage by the media: UPV/EHU and BIC GIPUZKOA BERRILAN web pages, Campusa (university magazine), news magazines from the Spanish and European networks; European Business Innovation Centres ANCES AND EBN.
• Presentation of a trophy corresponding to the award
